You're Never Charged for a Letter You Can't Use

You pay upfront for professional review. If the reviewing health professional determines you do not need an ESA, you receive a full refund.

If a housing provider denies your valid letter, you can submit a housing-denial claim for review under our Refund Policy.

No fee is retained on any full-refund category.

Two Ways You're Protected

Scenario 1

If You Don't Qualify

Your assessment is reviewed by a licensed mental health professional. If they determine that an ESA is not appropriate for your needs, you receive a full refund of the amount paid, with no professional evaluation or administrative fee retained. Refunds are returned to your original payment method and may take approximately 5–10 business days to appear, depending on your bank or payment provider.

How refunds work
Scenario 2

If a Housing Provider Denies Your Valid Letter

A housing provider saying "no" does not automatically qualify an order for a refund. A housing-denial claim qualifies for the guarantee when PetHousingRights determines, based on the submitted evidence and the criteria in the Refund Policy, that you completed the required accommodation process and the claim falls within the housing-denial guarantee.

How housing-denial reviews work

What Makes a PetHousingRights Letter Verifiable

Each item gives a housing provider a separate document detail to review without turning verification into a clinical record search.

Licensed professional review

Eligible documentation reflects an individual evaluation and signature by an appropriately licensed mental health professional.

Named provider and credentials

The provider’s name, credential and license information appear on the document rather than a generic company signature.

NPI lookup where available

An NPI can be checked in the public CMS NPPES Registry when a provider has one. An NPI record does not itself validate licensure.

Discrete verification QR code

Where used, the QR code accompanies a unique verification number and points to the verification entry experience.

Issuance date on the letter

The date shown on the document helps a housing provider understand when the clinician issued it.

Dedicated verification access

The existing verification form accepts a 12-digit number. A confirmed result depends on the live verification service being connected.

Reasonable-accommodation documentation

A letter can support a housing accommodation request by documenting a disability-related need. Verification confirms document information; it does not guarantee that a particular request must be approved.

Clear support and privacy boundaries

Questions can be directed through PetHousingRights support channels, while the landlord-facing check remains limited to document and provider information rather than unnecessary clinical detail.
